A Kosher Home

B"H

A Kosher Home, a home that is "Fit."  In this case, we're not talking about food, but fit for a calm, happy Mom.  As we all know, everyone in the family needs to take responsibility by helping out with age-appropriate    chores    responsibilities.  Being responsible helps kids feel that they are important & helps them develop an internal sense of well-being.  Since we are all the CEO's of our homes, aka 'Akeres HaBayis," use the strategy that works:  Delegate, Train, Follow Up!

Here's a replay of the events as they occurred in my mikdash meat (home):

CEO (Me):  "Everyone come here please, quickly quickly.  Ok, we're having an urgent meeting, it's only going to be for a few minutes, so listen carefully so we can finish quickly.  Name some things Mommy & Tatty (He was there for extra authoritative-ness) do for our family....for our house?  (They all smiled, then I heard things like, clean the house, help us, buy us presents).  Mommy & Tatty work to make sure everyone in the family has what they need, clothes, food, a clean house.  Everyone needs to help.  Each of you are responsible for helping make the house a nice place to live.  Each of you is going to get a nice chart with weekly responsibilities and daily responsibilities, some of which you already do, so it's really not a big deal.  A lot of the responsibilities are the same for each of you and then there are a few different ones that each of you will have."

I then showed them the cute charts and quickly read them each of their responsibilities.  They began to argue about who was going to sweep the dining room and who was going to sweep the kitchen (Not Kidding!).  All in all, we spoke for about 4 minutes in a fast-paced, fun-yet-a-bit-serious tone.

Of course, this will take reminders and follow up, but the house will be more organized, the kinder will benefit from being more responsible & I will have more free time to blog, work on GAM GAM recipes, pastries for gam gam goodies etc......
Yes!  Time for a coffee!

Update:  My oldest just added things to his list!

Let Them Eat........Cookies

B"H

Yes, you read correctly.  These are the kind of cookies you want your kids to eat.  The only problem is, they were almost gone before I could take a photo of them!

I soaked some millet, using half for a delicious, nutritious cereal for yesterday's breakfast.  With the rest, I made delicious cookies.  Lightly crunchy on the outside, soft & chewy on the inside, these banana cookies were a hit, sweetened with nature's own honey.

So simple!

Take a look - they were gone within minutes!

Add Some Heat to Your Winter

B"H

On a cold Shabbos night, add some heat to your seuda by serving Morrocan fish.  Many prepare this dish with Tilapia, but my hubby loves it with Salmon.  In addition to the benefit of Omega-3's, salmon also has been found to help with inflammation of the digestive tract & joints, as well as osteoporosis, via a protein called calcitonin.  Read it up.

"Eish katan, harbeh zman," is what I always say (low flame, a lot of time).
Stick with the fresh stuff and your seasonings will blow them away on taste.

If you are in Venice, or will be in the future, come join us for Shabbos at GAM GAM any weekend of the year.  We LOVE having guests.  Stay warm & healthy and have a wonderful Shabbos everyone!

Hashem Makes Such Great Things

B"H

Grab the bread of your choice and fill it up with delectable beauties like these, or just jump on over to gam gam goodies, right down from GAM GAM Kosher Restaurant, and we'll make it for you .  A spin-off of my famous breakfast pizza, this one is a looker (and a taster)!  You can easily eat this one too fast, it's so delish, so slow down and get those 20-30 chews in there.  We all know it's very easy to go for another bite before you've completely swallowed
your current mouthful.  Thumbs up Hashem, this one's a keeper.

Come One, Come All

B"H

Something for everyone......meat-lover, veggie-lover, chocolate-lover........Thanks Chef Teebs for the write-up, we're glad you loved, and would love to see you back soon.

"Before arriving to Europe I researched about vegetarian/vegan food and found that most people said Venice has the worst food. Honestly we were very blessed we found two restaurants I would definitely be a regular at if I were a local. One was called GAM GAM Kosher Restaurant. It's located at the main entrance of the Jewish Ghetto. I had fresh grilled veggies and Jackie had veggies with couscous. The hummus was delicious!"

How to Spend 36 Hours in Venice

B"H

Just googling around and found a very interesting article:

Experience Plus! Tour Leader, Sara V. shares her secrets on how to get the most out of 36 hours in Venice. Right along with visiting S. Marco, the Tower, Rialto & the Rialto Market, Murano & Burano, check out Sara's choice for the one lunch in Venice:

"Continue your walk through the neighborhood of Cannaregio from Ponte delle Guglie.  Head under the Sottoportego del Ghetto Vecchio (see if you can find the marks on the wall caused by the rings that were a part of the gates that were closed after dark when the Jewish population was required to stay inside the Ghetto).  Depending on your timing, if it’s lunch time you could try the only restaurant serving kosher food in Venice called GAM GAM."

Thank's Sara! You gotta love that! I hope I get to meet her someday so I can take her to lunch;)
